Bulgaria's second DNA laboratory opened in the Black Sea city of Bourgas, bringing the country a step closer to Schengen integration.
Former deputy interior minister Raif Moustafa had personally asked another public official to take a 50 000 bribe which made Moustafa a key player in the scheme, prosecutor claims.
Raif Moustafa was freed after paying 10 000 leva bail. He faces up to 10 years' imprisonment and a 15 000 leva fine.
