Jean Pierre Goyran is the newly appointed French advisor to the Bulgarian Interior Ministry. Officially, his mandate commences on August 1. Until then, the French interior expert is set to investigate and assess the current situation in Bulgaria.

"It is an honour for me to be part of the changes that will reform the Bulgarian police force in accordance with the European model," he said during a meeting with Interior Minister, Mihail Mihov, Dnevnik daily has quoted him as saying.

According to the French expert, reforms to the Bulgarian police will be ambitious and will take place within a relatively short time frame. The programme, which will be implemented by the Interior Ministry, will adhere to the philosophy and working methods of the French model.

Previously, in 2007, Goran had been entrusted with co-ordinating another French-backed project, namely reformation of the police force patrolling the streets in the country.

For his part, Mihov has started introducing the new French advisor to the practical problems involved in categorising municipal branches as well as the preparations for Bulgaria’s entry into the Schengen Zone.
