Rafael Nadal hopes to be fit for Wimbledon

Injured Rafael Nadal is battling time to reach full match fitness for Wimbledon. The player is nursing a knee injury which could still keep him off the court.

However, in the latest statement, he has vowed to fans that he will do everything humanly possible to play and that he will travel to London on June 16, the BBC has reported.

Current world number one Rafael Nadal says he will give "200 per cent" as he bids to be fit in time to defend his Wimbledon title, and prevent Roger Federer from winning his 15th Grand Slam which would effectively make him the greatest tennis player of all time.

Nadal withdrew on June 5 from next week’s grass-court tournament at Queen’s Club due to a knee injury.

The Spaniard who overcame Federer in an epic 2008 final on Wimbledon's centre court, will now undergo intense rehabilitation ahead of the start of the UK's most prestigious tennis tournament on June 22.

Meanwhile Roger Federer has dispelled speculation that he could soon be retiring now that he is set to become a father for the first time later this summer,

"I love the game too much to walk away from it," he said, as quoted by the CNN.

"My wife wants me to play on for many more years so our child can see me play. That has been a big dream," he said.

In fact, Federer has targeted the 2012 London Olympics, which will be held on the grass of Wimbledon, which he intends to win. Currently he is level with the all-time record of 14 grand slams held by American great Pete Sampras.
