Manchester United in legal trouble with CSKA Sofia

Dimitar Berbatov

CSKA Sofia has filed a lawsuit in FIFA against Premier League Champions Manchester United regarding an unsettled matter involving sale-on-fees which the Bulgarian club were supposed to receive as part of the transfer of Bulgarian Dimitar Berbatov from Spurs to Manchester United at the beginning of last season, Sportal.bg has reported.

Reportedly, the sum is one million leva which the Bulgarian team were supposed to obtain in the summer of 2008 as a 'solidarity' payment, a percentage of the 30.75 million pounds sterling transfer of the player from White Hart Lane to Old Trafford.

Both sides had apparently met on several occasions in an attempt to resolve the issues. Apparently representatives of the English club have said that "nothing will be wired to CSKA Sofia", Sportal has reported.

British law apparently states that when local transfers are involved from one English-based club to another, the fee percentage should not be allocated to former teams, which are based overseas.

Accordingly, CSKA felt that it was left with no alternative but to seek assistance from FIFA and have recruited the services of Ian Blackshaw.
