"After everything that has been said against us, I think this is a good result," Boiko Borissov, leader of Citizens for the European Development of Bulgaria (abbreviated as GERB in Bulgarian) said in an interview with Bulgarian National Television (BNT).

Visibly agitated, Borissov continued "people vote for who you are, for what you've done."

"If they haven't seen who you are in the past 10 years, then what kind of campaign do you need? Billboards and television clips are not a good campaign," he said.

Quoting a European election television clip from the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP ) in which Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev defended national government policy, Borissov asked what Stanishev was doing in the campaign, saying "he is not a candidate for European Parliament." According to Borissov, the BSP campaign had been a national campaign, not a European one.

Borissov said he hoped the Interior Ministry, prosecution and the State Agency for National Security (SANS) would examine all tip-offs regarding vote-buying, "so we stop this once and for all," Borissov said.

Referring to comments by Konstantin Penchev, chair of the Supreme Administrative Court (SAC), that he had been put under pressure to deny the election registration of the centre-rightwing Blue Coalition, Borissov said "if this is possible with the chair of the SAC, just imagine what happens in smaller places".

"Who could have put Penchev under pressure?" Borissov said. "It wasn't the opposition, so there's only two parties left," he said.

According to Borissov, Bulgaria had crossed the line, saying the case of pressuring Penchev ought to be investigated first, followed by vote-buying cases.

When asked about criticism of GERBs financial teams after a previous debate on BNT, Borissov responded by asking who those critics were. A question he himself answered by reciting a long list of, in his words, "former ministers that have failed."

"These are their experts," Borissov said. "I don't want our experts to be like theirs. Thank you very much," he said.
