More Bulgarian troops will be sent to Afghanistan

Bulgarian soldiers take part in an international military exercise "Immediate Response" at the Novo Selo military base near the town of Sliven

Bulgarian Armed Forces will boost their military personnel in Afghanistan. The Cabinet has confirmed on June 4 that on September 1 2009, "26 fully kitted out troops along with nine units of military hardware" will be sent to the country.

The Bulgarian troops will augment the capacity of the current detachment of troops already deployed in the area, and will participate in the operation of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), a Government press release has stated on June 4.

The Bulgarian soldiers will be part of a training and liaison task force, assigned to train and acuminate the preparation of an element of the Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers. The service members will provide assistance in the planning of the operational employment and liaison between the ANA elements and operation ISAF units deployed in immediate proximity.
