CSKA Sofia will aim to offload as many of its foreign players as possible during the transfer window, and will reinforce its squad only with Bulgarian talent. The runners-up have already released two foreigners - Felipe Machado was sold to Fluminense for a reported fee of $200 000, while Nigerian defender Shikoze Udodji was released on a free transfer.

"Currently, the most important thing for us is to meet our financial obligations, which are considerable," CSKA owner Dimitar Borissov said, as quoted by 7 Days Sport. "Once we balance the books, we can think of transfers for the new season, but I can assure you that we will not be attracting any foreigners in the squad. We will look exclusively for local talent."

Borissov, one of the main shareholders in Titan AS, the company that took over the club earlier this season, has said that the new owners had already cleared 12 million leva worth of debts. "But there is still a lot of money still owed and every day people are calling us, asking for us to pay them up."

CSKA had a dreadful end of season, losing to arch-rivals Levski Sofia, Cherno More Varna and Litex Lovech to squander a five-point lead with five matches left to play. Nevertheless, the club will not sack Lyubomir Penev, appointed head coach half-way through the season.

"Penev trusted us when he first arrived here, and so now we trust him in turn," Borissov said.
