Bulgarians travel more than last year - NSI

Bulgarians have made 18.6 per cent more tourist trips between January and March 2009, compared to the same period last year, figures of the National Statistical Institute (NSI) published on May 29 showed.

Trips in Bulgaria surged 25.7 per cent while travels abroad shrank by 20.5 per cent.

Bulgarians continued to spend the bulk of their money on food, account for 39 per cent of the total amount spent at home and 30.9 per cent abroad, according to the statistics.

Accommodation slices off the smallest share of 17.4 per cent in Bulgaria and 11.6 per cent abroad.

NSI statistics announced over the week showed that Bulgarians’ foreign trips increased by 5.9 per cent year-on-year in April, with Greece attracting the largest number of travelers.

Greece welcomed almost 35 000 Bulgarian holidaymakers in April, which represents a 76.3 per cent increase from the same period of 2008.
