Ronaldo blames Ferguson's tactics while Giggs remains defiant in defeat

The strain of defeat and disappointment have apparently taken their toll on Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, who in an attempt to shield his selfish behaviour on the pitch has opted to attack his manager instead, as reported by British media.

Ronaldo seems content to blame his manager rather than reflect on his own questionable performance on the night.

"This is the biggest disappointment of my career," he said as quoted by the Guardian. "I'm always confident in my own ability and confident that we can win whenever we play, which makes it even more disappointing. We had 10 [good] minutes and then we never found ourselves again," he said. "The tactics were not good and everything went wrong."

The forward also left his future open to doubt. Asked whether he would be at Old Trafford next season, he replied: "I don't know"

If Ronaldo is being a cry-baby, looking for a scapegoat, others in the team are accepting defeat more honourably.

United veteran Ryan Giggs has reflected upon United's arduous campaign, which will still go down as a major success, in spite of the defeat to "Beautiful Barcelona" last night.

"It’s been a fantastic season when you consider what we’ve achieved this year – including our third league title on the trot," Ryan told MUTV.

"We just fell at the final hurdle. No team has defended the Champions League, it's a very difficult trophy to win. We deserved to get to the final but we didn’t deserve to win.

"Barcelona did deserve to win. They are a good team and if they go one-nil up, they’re the best in the business at keeping the ball. They can make teams look ordinary."

The Red Devils will not enter the ‘elite club’ of Real Madrid, AC Milan, Liverpool, Ajax and Bayern Munich this year. Neither will Alex Ferguson reach Bob Paisley’s record of three European Champions cups. But the English side have kept their resolve and have promised to come back, with a vengeance. Ferguson also was philosophical and gracious in defeat, paying his respects to Barcelona. In a post match interview, he said that "(United) simply lost to the better team".

"We didn't play as well as we can but you have to give Barcelona credit," he said, as quoted by the BBC.

"Lionel Messi wasn't the problem, Xavi and Andres Iniesta kept the ball all night and made it difficult for us."

"We knew what a good football team they were. We had difficulty in defending against them. Messi dropped into midfield and they kept possession and made it difficult for us."

Anonymous Dwayne Afonso Fri, May 29 2009 05:24 CET

To all you dumb asses who've been defending Ronaldo face up to the facts, the guy's a diver and a downright cheat, remember the 2006 world cup clash against England? The man's definately the best player in the world but he needs to grow up big time, and as for you guys, do not let your hero worship blind you to the obvious.

Anonymous Shaneri Fri, May 29 2009 04:56 CET

Ronaldo was the best Man United player on the pitch. His team failed him. I would be pissed too. WTF the guy can't win the game all by himself every time even though he has done it many times before! VIVA RONALDO.

Anonymous manutd7 Fri, May 29 2009 01:07 CET

i meant champions league

Anonymous manutd7 Fri, May 29 2009 01:07 CET

Ronaldo please dont leave!!!! He didnt even play badly, sure at times you could see that he was trying to do it himself but he did pretty well. just because they loose the premier league, he threatens to leave. whatever im a big fan of him!

Ronaldo played well. ManU lost pocession too many times. You can't blame it on Barcelona holds the ball well, when time and time again ManU gave them the ball. Defence sucked, midfield sucked and the forward line rarely got the ball. Barca is world class, but only IF you hand them the ball.

Anonymous gorton red Thu, May 28 2009 23:10 CET

sell ronaldo and buy messi come on u reds barcelona were lucky after a brill start by man u but that is football and they went on to a deserved win

this goes to u .....Dwayne Afonso

Wow. Way to jump on the ronaldo is a spoilt brat bandwagon. It doesn't take a privileged tactical mind to know that he is absolutely correct. Barcelona, tactically, rubbed Man United completely off the field. Completely. Sure he's a crybaby at times, but this just seems like a cheap shot at him. Good stuff Nick Illiev. Good stuff, I say!

Anonymous Bruno Thu, May 28 2009 17:39 CET

I'm portuguese and i listned to what he said (in Portuguese) and you guys are putting it out of context. He said Barca are the rightful winners and that even him did not play like he wanted to. Envy is sooo nice. Last year he was the best in Wolrd, now he is amongst the 3 best in the world (for 4 years it as been like this), is there any english player in the best 10? LOL. Eat it....

Anonymous Dwayne Afonso Thu, May 28 2009 17:26 CET

That's Ronaldo for you......selfish punk ass cry baby.
