Bulgarian stars took to wheelchairs at Sofia's Grand Hotel on Monday May 25 to raise awareness of the problems faced by people with disabilities.

The event was staged by the I CAN TOO foundation.

Actress and television show host Iskra Angelova, former pop singer Dido and film director Javor Gardev (director of Zift) were among the stars present, chained to wheelchairs, who hosted journalists and guests.

The stars illustrated how wheelchair-bound people have to live, frequently confined to their homes because they lack access to appliances necessary for their mobility.

"Let Bulgaria be accessible for everyone, not by gathering funds, but with deeds. Let us give an opportunity for business, politics, state institutions and private organisations to get involved by building ramps, elevators and other appliances for people with disabilities," said Angelova.

"There are so many people in Bulgaria willing to help, without knowing how. The idea of the I CAN TOO foundation is that everyone should be able to access those impossible to reach places for the disabled," said Dido.

Film director Javor Gardev highlighted the other aspect of the foundation's work. "Talent among children with disabilities will melt the distance between the so called 'invalid' and 'valid' people in society. Many of these (disabled) children have an incredible gift to be good painters, musicians, artists. We simply have to see it," he said.
