A bus with a technical malfunction has sliced into a throng of tourists, killing 15 people and injuring 12 others, four of whom were reported to be critical. The incident occurred at 9.20am on May 28 near Yambol in southeastern Bulgaria. The charter coach went off the road and plunged into a group of people who were headed towards the Bakadjik hills, about 15km east of Yambol, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

The vehicle, registered to a Yambol transport company, ferried people to the Bakadjik hills, their exact number still unknown to authorities. The casualties, who travelled with the same coach, started climbing the peak along the road, when the bus lost control and ran them over, the ministry said.

According to initial data released by authorities and paramedic units who arrived on site, there were 13 confirmed fatalities and four others were in critical condition. Subsequently, two more people died in hospital.

Two of the tourists only had minor bruises and have been released. The bus driver has sustained mild bruises from the accident and has been released from the ward.

Seven ambulances and paramedic units are currently deployed at the scene of the accident, Focus news agency has reported. Five ambulances have arrived from Yambol, one from Voinika and one from Tenevo. All injured tourists have been dispatched to the emergency ward in Yambol.

I agree with both the inhabitant of
Yambol and with Bo. Surely these
vehicles should be subject to proper safety checks.

In Denmark, where I come from, huge investigations would be started in order to place the guild to - in time - be able to make better roads, better busses, more sercurity checks with busses etc.

Anyone have a clue of what will happen next due to this episode? I mean, nothing or?

And, yes, it's SO very sad. Normally the "old stuff" in Bulgaria don't hurt anyone at all, but this is heartbreaking!

Cheers
