Kosovo president cancels official visit to Macedonia

Kosovo president Fatmir Sejdiu

Kosovo president Fatmir Sejdiu has cancelled an official visit to Macedonia planned for May 28 2009 because Skopje changed the status of the visit, Sejdiu’s office said.

When Macedonia’s new president Gjorge Ivanov was inaugurated, Sejdiu was sent an official invitation but reports said that he was privately asked not to attend so as to avoid tension with his Serbian counterpart. Serbia rejects Kosovo’s February 2008 self-declared independence.

On May 27 2009, Kosovo daily Zeri said that Ivanov’s office had announced that Sejdiu would be received without state ceremony. This included a plan to receive Sejdiu at a venue other than Ivanov’s official residence.

Ivanov’s office said that the date of establishing diplomatic relations between Macedonia and Kosovo would not be set at the meeting of the presidents because the office of the president of Macedonia – constitutionally, a largely ceremonial role – did not have the authority to do this.

Zeri said that it was interesting that a few days previously, Macedonian deputy prime
minister Abdylhaqim Ademi had said that the establishment of diplomatic relations with
Kosovo had been left in the hands of the two presidents.

After the announcement from Pristina, Ivanov’s office responded with a statement regretting that the Sejdiu visit had been cancelled.

Sorry there, someone has stolen my username once again... As said in other posts, I would like to express my apologies to all the Greeks there for the harsh and unrealistic comments I wrote there.
Indeed, FYROM must be renamed Vardaska. It's time to put an end to the neverending lies and political manipulations.
Macedonia is Greek, and Vardaska belongs to the Slav's.

Thanks, Peggy - you're quite right. There's a load of extremists who appear to have hi-jacked this site, and I don't agree with any of them ! Peace and negotiation is my preference, but not this lot ! Whether Pella is worse than Illyrian is a moot point, but they both sound like fanatics. Which I am not.

Thanks once again for your comment.

People, I think that we have another Dr. Cornelious. Someone is impersonating him. He and I rarely agree but I do know how he writes and whoever wrote the last lot is not the original Dr.Cornelious.

Someone here is desperate to stirr trouble. Pathetic really.

How can Macedonians live with a fake history? Their history is Greece History. I don't think Macedonia should exist at all. No need for them to be there as they're not use of anything. Albanians should not care about Macedonia at all. They're not use of anything but spite on them.
