Second swine flu case confirmed in Greece

Greek authorities have confirmed a second case of H1N1 infection in the country, announced by local media, Ta Nea on Wednesday, May 27.  The diagnosed person is a 21-year-old student, who had recently returned from Edinburgh, Scotland.  The Health Ministry informed that there is no threat to the man's life because his symptoms are in an early phase and that the "situation is under control".

The young man is quarantined in his home and, for now, does not need to be hospitalised in the "Shishmanoglou" hospital, which specialises in virus and contagious infections, where the first case of swine flu in Greece was treated, according to Grreproter.info

According to reports, however, doctors have recommended that he visit the Shishmanoglou hospital to be examined. After tests were administered, he was told to return home, remain indoors and avoid contact with others. His family is also being given medication.

On Monday, May 18 the Greek health ministry confirmed the first case of swine flu, the H1N1A flu strain. It was detected in a 19-year-old Greek student after he returned from the US. The young man in question has been isolated in a medical unit.

In light of the first case of swine flu in the country, the Greek health ministry has revealed that it has "strategic stocks" of Tamiflu and other anti-virus medicines to treat 12 percent of the country's 11 million population. Two hospitals in Athens were equipped to treat swine flu patients, they said.
