Mike Portnoy, the drummer of Dream Theater famous for being a passionate football fan, has requested that organisers of the Kaliakra festival provide him with a Bulgarian national shirt bearing the name of Dimitar Berbatov. He has said that he will wear it during the band's show, scheduled for July 2 at the Kaliakra Rock Fest 2009.

Portnoy is the drummer and backing vocalist for the American progressive metal band Dream Theater. Known for his unique drumming prowess and technical skill, Portnoy has won 23 awards from the Modern Drummer magazine. Not only he is a gifted musician and the powerhouse behind the band's powerful riffs and ear shattering rhythm, Portnoy has co-produced the last five Dream Theater albums with the co-operation of the band's guitarist John Petrucci.

Moreover, Portnoy has been writing a substantial amount of Dream Theater's lyrics, filling the void left by Kevin Moore.

Dream Theater performed in Sofia for the first time seven years ago, a show heralded as a massive success. Now, with the release of the band's tenth studio album, Black Clouds & Silver Linings, the band has embarked on an international promotional tour, part of which will be Bulgaria.

Kaliakra Rock Fest will be held for the fourth consecutive year. Scheduled to last from July 1-3, the headliners on the first day will be Motley Crue, followed by the German rock legends Scorpions, who will headline on July 2, supported by the German power metal band, Blind Guardian.

On the final night of the festival, Dream Theater will hit the stage, supported by the progressive band Cynic.

Tickets for the festival are available at the National Palace of Culture (NDK) ticket centre, or on line at www.ticketstream.bg and www.eventim.bg

A single day's ticket is priced at 55 leva. A package ticket for the three-day event will cost 100 leva.

Inappropriate comment?

In the festival's official site says that it starts every day at 20:00 and ends at 22:30, is this possible? I mean the bands will have to play for very short period.

Manowar and Sixth Sense, on the other hand, liked it so much here last year, so that they decided to drop by again. And they liked their warm up band too, so they decided to bring them as well.
