Globul, the Bulgarian mobile phone operator, has posted a revenue to 213 million leva in the first quarter of the year, an increase of 7.9 per cent over the same period of 2008, the company said in a statement. For the first three months operating profit increased by 2.9 per cent to 35 million leva.

The telecom said it increased the share of post-paid subscribers by 15.8 per cent year-on-year to just over two million, which was 51 per cent of the operator’s customer base.

Globul, owned by Greek operator Cosmote, is the second-largest mobile telecom with 38 per cent market share. Cosmote is the mobile arm of Greek telecoms firm OTE, in which Deutsche Telekom owns 25 per cent.

Cosmote revenues for the period fell by 4.1 per cent to 716.4 million euro, mainly reflecting lower sales of handsets and accessories, the company said. Operating income fell by 3.9 per cent to 133.9 million euro.
