Champions League Final: Man United v Barcelona

Champions League Final: Man United v Barcelona

An incredible equaliser in the dying seconds of the game for 10-man Barcelona booked the Catalan giants a Champions League Final encounter with United in Rome on May 27.

For quite a while the option was lingering in the air that United and Chelsea would meet again on the final in successive seasons, but instead it is Barça who will take on the holders in Rome. The last time Manchester United and Barcelona met in a European cup final was in the season 1990-91 of the European Cup Winners' Cup which was won by the Reds, 2-1 with two goals from Mark Hughes and one from Ronald Koeman. It was a great return to European football for English clubs, who had endured a five-year ban after the Heysel Stadium disaster.

Chelsea were shattered by Andres Iniesta's spectacular strike deep into stoppage time which wrecked their dreams of a second successive Champions League final.

The Londoners appeared to have kept Barcelona at bay and sealed an all-Premier League clash in Rome in a tense encounter after Michael Essien's 20-yard screamer in the tenth minute propelled the Blues ahead in the score.

But it appeared that Guus Hiddink's side would hang onto their marginal lead, in spite of the fact that the referee Tom Ovrebo was obviously biased against them – he rejected a succession of penalty appeals which could have sealed the match once and for all in favour of the English side.

Instead, Andres Iniesta beat Petr Cech from the edge of the area to send Barcelona into the final on away goals.

It was a heartbreaking moment for Chelsea and substituted Didier Drogba could not contain his anger after the match.

He branded referee Tom Henning Ovrebo a "disgrace" after his side's Champions League semi-final, second leg defeat by Barcelona.

Drogba then ran on to the pitch to demand an explanation from Ovrebo at the final whistle and was duly shown a yellow card for his trouble. Whatever the case is, and whatever the reasons behind the ludicrous decisions from the ref, Michel Platini will be glad that his worst nightmare hasn't materialised – an all English final, again.

Drogba yelled, fumed and swore into TV cameras and is likely to face action from Uefa.

Chelsea's disappointment aside, Barca will battle it out with United in the final. United are still going strong and are likely to win the Quadruple. Barca, meanwhile, are having an incredible season of their own.

But why was Eto slaping his arm after he scored did he think he was on drugs
trying to make his vaines bigger so as to show everyone he was on drug it's
not i want my grandkids to see.
I remember when Robbie Fowler snorted the goal line he never played much football
after that it would also seem the press never picked up on it as it become the norm

I looked forward to seeing Man United and Chelsea once again playing the final, but I knew Barca can pull a surprise as they surely did yesterday.
What about the red card shown to the Barca player, was it worth it? I do not think the referee was biased on the officiating. He did a good job yesterday

I am a barça fan

what amuses me hear is that everybody supporting chelsea seems to blame the referree. What can they say about the penalty refuse to Barça in the away leg when Thierry Henry was intentionally dragged to the floor inside the box by Alex.

Secondly, football is a game where actors are human beings so are subject to errors. Drogba himself makes a lot of mistake even as a player when he does not commit a fault, he chets, or kills time when their are in the lead. He [...]

Read the full comment had the occassion to kill the match in the away leg , he did not score, Yesterday he messed up. Let him do his job by scoring when it is expected and allow wrongs of the referrees to people assign to that. He lacks sportmanship in every apect. I am ashame that he is african like me. No matter what he has done and said , the page of the semi-finals is turned and lovers of football like me are looking forward to a good final will respected actors.
