The London derby will pit Chelsea against their neighbours from Fulham. The latter have been enjoying a remarkable season so far, having bagged 47 points and are currently seventh, just six points behind Everton. Fulham have European aspirations of their own; they have ambitions they want to achieve this season, consequently they will put on a hard fight on Saturday.

Chelsea, however, are coming into the match on the back of a midweek European clash with Barcelona which will be a distraction. The pressure is from the lurking second leg of the semi-final clash, just around the corner, as well as second placed Liverpool. The Blues have not finished outside the top two for five seasons. They could at least clinch third place and entry to the group stages of the Champions League, by winning this match and beating Arsenal next weekend.

But they will have to overwhelm high flying Fulham who are on course for the highest finish in their 130-year history. Before this, their best achievement was finishing ninth in the Premiership in the 2003-04 season. Should they hold onto seventh position, that should serve them well to earn a slot in the third qualifying round for next season's Europa League.

Fulham’s manager, Roy Hodgson has praised Simon Davies, one of the most inspirational players in Fulham's epic season this year, before the club’s website, ahead of the Chelsea encounter:

"He’s been complaining about his foot for a while now but he’s been playing through the problem," Roy Hodgson said. "But it exacerbated in recent weeks, so much so that we sent him for a scan.

"We’re talking somewhere in the region of 50 games where he’s been playing every week, never missing a training session – I think it’s just one of those things that can develop. I think Davies is a star, to play 50 games non-stop, for me, that is a star."

Fulham will have to overcome what turned out to be the tightest Premiership defence - Chelsea have conceded just 20 goals from 34 matches. Fulham are not doing too bad themselves either, as they have allowed 28 goals in their net.

Should, however, Fulham manage to clinch the three points from Stamford Bridge on Saturday, this would be first time they beat Chelsea at their own manor in 45 years, since their 1-2 triumph on March 7 1964.
