In 2005 Bourgas became known as a place where pick axes are used to send messages around

Ten motor vehicles were set on fire and burned down within a two-hour period in Sofia in the early hours of April 28 2009, Interior Ministry said.

The vehicles were set on fire between 1am and 2am. Five vehicles were burned outside Block 50 in Mladost borough. Three more vehicles burned down on Slatina borough and, later, two vehicles were set on fire in Moderno Predgradie borough.

Police are working on a lead that the fires were aimed at people with criminal records, the Interior Ministry said without revealing any further information.

The fires suggests that setting fire to vehicles is becoming - once again - a 'fashionable' way to send messages to Bulgaria's underground world. In the past three years the fashion was to stick one or several pick axes in the body of the vehicle.

This was extremely popular in the Black Sea town of Bourgas where after several incidents of this kind the media started talking about a group specialising in this particular trade.

Great stuff! Ten less cars! You can't walk anywhere without them blocking the pavement, I've just been hit by one on a zebra crossing (just minor bruises luckily) They park on pavements and bike paths and bully cyclists and pedestrians. And they stink! Not to mention all the greenhouse gasses they pump out into the atmosphere. Get rid of some more! Walk, cycle, get the bus, and put a few more cars onto the rubbish dump of history!

This is pure jealousy, BG has a long way to go in terms of fighting lawlessness in the country.
