Sebastian Vettel from Red Bull, winner of Chinese Grand Prix a week earlier, was third after clocking a time that was 0.584 seconds slower than Trulli. He will be joined on the secon row of the starting grid by the leader in the drivers' standing, Jenson Button from Brawn GP.

Reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton with McLaren and  Brawn GP's other driver Rubens Barrichello, are on the third row. Former two-time world champion Fernando Alonso with Renault was seventh, joined by last year's runner-up Felipe Massa from Ferrari.
