English Premier League: Can Liverpool maintain pressure on Manchester United?

Hull City, currently occupying 16th position in the table, with 34 points to their name, just three points from safety and 18th placed Middlesbrough, will entertain Liverpool at the KC Stadium on Saturday, April 25.

The Reds suffered a major blow to their title aspirations after another 4-4 thriller at Anfield and are currently three points behind Manchester United, who enjoy a game in hand, so the encounter in the north-eastern fishing town of England will be a titanic one. Liverpool needs to push forward, whereas Hull need to keep clear of the death zone.

Should the Reds claim three points, they will knock Manchester United off the perch for the fourth game running, albeit only on goal difference. However, United play later that day against Spurs, so they, in turn, have the opportunity to quickly retain their position.

Hull City, who had a brilliant start to the season, have had a terrible run as of late which saw them drop all the way from the top of the table to the edge of the relegation zone.  Should the Tigers fail to deploy the flaps and arrest their rapid descent, they could become the 18th club (in the history of the Premiership) to be relegated the season after securing promotion to the Premier League.

This clash pits the Premier League's top scorers against the second weakest defence, with Liverpool have scored a staggering 63 goals, while Hull having conceded 56.

Another interesting statistic is that Hull City have never in their history beaten Liverpool in a competitive match.

Hull have won three times at home in the league so far this campaign, with eight defeats. It is the worst record in the top flight, as is their total home points haul of 14.

Only one Liverpool player has ever scored a hat-trick against the Tigers. Ian Callaghan scored all the Reds' goals in a 3-1 League Cup Replay at Anfield in December 1973 with the game being played on a weekday afternoon to conserve power.
