The future participation of Bulgarian troops and observers in international military and peacekeeping missions will be of paramount importance and of real benefit to the Bulgaria armed forces.

"It is a vital and a responsible deed for the Ministry of Defence and the General Headquarters of the Bulgarian Army," Major General Angel Zlatinov, deputy commander of joint operational command, told an April 16 2009 news conference about the experiences of Bulgarian military personnel in peacekeeping operations, Bulgarian National Radio reported.

"Dispatching military units and observers to Kosovo, Liberia, Ethiopia, Georgia and Eritrea is a serious challenge for us, but one that needs to be implemented," he said,

Zlatinov reckons that overseas deployments and participation in international missions enhance the experience and prestige of Bulgaria. "It shows that we have become a fully-fledged, responsible, reliable and respectable member of Nato and the international community," he said.
