Bulgaria traffic police to test electronic notification system

Bulgaria's Traffic Police will test on April 8 the first electronic system for issuing fines for traffic-related offenses and another for their payment, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

Fines could be paid through text messages, but also using debit and credit cards, after registration through online payments website ebg.bg. The new payment methods should rid the Traffic Police headquarters of the large queues of drivers waiting to pay their fines.

The two systems would be demostrated by Interior Minister Mihail Mihov, who is also due to present the new management of the Traffic Police.

Mihov will use the ceremony to present the Sofia traffic police with 15 new BMW motorbikes, five bikes for the motorway patrol police branch, one VW van and two modern snap removal trucks. The trucks will be used for the removal of illegally parked and unattained vehicles, obstructing the traffic or pavements and for vehicles involved in car accidents.
