English Premier League: Fulham v Liverpool

In-form Liverpool will be in London for the three points against Fulham. At least that would be the idea, and nothing short of three points will be satisfactory for Rafa Benitex and his men.

Fulham are ninth, with 40 points out of 30 matches, eight points behind sixth-placed Everton and potential European football qualification. Fulham have an agenda of their own and will make it very difficult for the Merseysiders, who will be hoping for another United slip against Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Villa were annihilated 5-0 at Anfield and now Liverpool will hope the Brummies will regroup and do them a favour against their arch rivals, but Fulham comes first.

Should the Reds win, they will leapfrog Manchester United at the top of the table for at least one day. More importantly, it will supply the team with that vital morale boost before their annual meet with Chelsea for the Champions League on Wednesday, this time for the quarter-final first leg at Anfield.

Fulham are pursuing back-to-back wins against 'Big Four' clubs after pulling off one of the most amazing victories of the entire season; 2-0, home to Manchester United on 21 March. They're also hunting three wins on the spin for the first time since their sensational status-saving end to last season.

And following Mark Schwarzer's Australia side who took a step closer to the 2010 World Cup Finals on Wednesday after beating Uzbekistan by two goals to nil at Stadium Australia, Schwarzer is confident that on Saturday against  Liverpool, the keeper is determined that Fulham can stage another shocking defeat and consolidate the Club's position in the top half of the Barclays Premier League table.

"We’ve got the international break now and a lot of us have been flying all over the place to play. We’re playing against Liverpool on Saturday, and we’ve drawn against them this season at Anfield and hopefully we can get a good result at home - we’re confident as anything at home regardless of the opposition" he said as quoted by the club’s official website.

Fulham captain and former Liverpool Kop favourite during his seven year spell at Anfield, Danny Murphy has also spoken of his feelings ahead of the match for Liverpool’s official website.

He doesn’t hide his affection for Liverpool and wishes the Reds all the best in their title push, but insists he would like Fulham to win on the day. Regarding the match itself, he has referred to it as a "Catch 22".

"It's catch-22 because of course I'd love to see Liverpool win the league, but I want Fulham to win the game because we've got aspirations of our own and want to finish as high up in the table as possible. If we have a good end to the season then who knows where it could take us?

Liverpool are in great form and on paper this is the sort of game the bigger teams are expected to win, but you never know. We've shown against all the top teams that have come here we can give them a game and we're confident after beating Manchester United".
