Nadal with a stunning comeback at Indian Wells

David Nalbandian

World number one tennis player Spaniard Rafael Nadal made a stunning comeback in his March 19 2009 match against David Nalbandian of Argentina. It was Nadal's first win against the Argentinian in their past three matches.

The two played in the fourth round of the Indian Wells Masters series tournament and for quite a big part of the match it seemed that world number 14 Nalbandian would get the better of Nadal.

Despite his efforts, Nadal managed to win the spectacular five match balls and take the win in three sets (3:6, 7:6, 6:0) and two hours and 50 minutes of play.

The crucial moment was in the second set when Nalbandian had five straight match balls but failed to take advantage of the opportunity Nadal gave him.

The latter, however, took full advantage of Nalbandian and came back into the game with restored confidence. The third set was just a formality with Nalbandian missing the opportunity for a third straight win against the world's best player.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic from Serbia also progressed in the tournament after a two-set win against world number 16 Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka 7:6 (7), 7:6 (6). World number three Djokovic will play world number seven Andie Roddick in the quarterfinals.

World number two and three-time tournament Roger Federer will play world number 10 Fernando Verdasco of Spain in the quarterfinals after winning in three sets 6:3, 5:7, 6:2 against world number 17 Fernando Gonzales of Chile.

Nadal is ever so humble, very determined. He is the reason why I watch this game. As I look forward to another final with the almighty Federer

I would so have loved to see this match but Fox Sports Network showed the Darina Safina match twice on Direct TV channel 692 and the signed off at 1:00 am PST when the schedule showed that they would broadcast until 2:00 am. So I was stuck with nothing, sounds like a truly great come back. Way to go Rafa and hope to see more of the tournament
