A 200 000 leva fine, an increase of the minimum sentence to five years in jail and cancellation of all votes in districts where vote-buying was proven  for parties that have been caught trying to buy votes in upcoming elections are some of the proposals the National Movement for Stability and Progress (NMSP) put forward in its new online campaign called Clean Elections.

The Clean Elections campaign consists of a special website at www.zachistiizbori.bg and a banner campaign.

Apart from tougher sanctions, the website also contains a number of proposals for changes to the organisation of elections.

Among those are the replacement of the voting booth with a desk, a complete ban on mobile phones and cameras during voting and the registration of voters' EGNs (the Bulgarian equivalent of a social security number) at the voting desk.

According to Bulgarian daily Trud, the online campaign will be accompanied by 50 000 flyers.

The website was announced only days before the party's MPs are expected to propose amendments to election legislation.

The site has a special section where tip-offs about vote-buying can be sent in. Every tip-off would be reviewed by a five-member panel of the party, which could decide to inform the prosecution, Trud said.

The website is available in Bulgarian only.
