Lower termination tariffs for phone network operators announced

Bulgaria's Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) announced that, in order to comply with European Commission recommendations for the regulation of call termination prices, it had approved a new plan for phased reduction of fees charged by operators.

The new plan affects prices operators charge other operators for access to their network. No price changes have yet been announced for consumers.

The new plan, which is expected to be approved within a week, includes immediate reduction of prices charged for calls from fixed-line to mobile and from mobile to mobile by around 10 per cent, about one eurocent a minute, a CRC media statement published on March 13 said.

The price reduction had originally been planned for July 1 2009.

Further price reductions would be introduced in January and in July 2010, by another eurocent each.

Bulgarian website mediapool.bg quoted unnamed sources as saying that even after the reductions, termination prices in Bulgaria would still be higher than those in the rest of Europe.
