It took only several hours for Sofia city centre to begin to look like a giant refuse bin. The reason – since March 6 2009, the concessionaire Novera has refused to collect rubbish, claiming unpaid wages from Sofia municipality, Dnevnik daily reported on March 7 2009. The municipality, however, said that all amounts due have been paid.

In 10 Sofia regions, in which Novera operated until recently, Titan-AC is now the concessionaire.

Mayor Boiko Borissov has now issued an ordinance for Titan-AC to start cleaning Lozenets, Slatina, Iskur, Sredets and Studentski Grad boroughs.

Later today, Dnevnik reported that Borissov has assigned Serdika, Ilinden, Pancharevo and Bankya to Titan-AC.
