FA Cup Sixth Round: Fulham v Man United

Fulham takes on Manchester United in the FA Cup in hope to halt United in their unprecedented Quintuple run this season. United have already secured the Community Shield, League Cup and World Club Championship and remain in the hunt for the league title, the FA Cup and the Champions League.

The hosts are 10th in the league with 34 points, 15 points from fifth placed Arsenal and European football and seven points clear of the relegation zone and 18th placed Blackburn Rovers. The Londoners have never won the FA Cup whereas their illustrious opponents Manchester United have lifted the trophy 11 times, a record for England.

The battle at Craven Cottage on March 7, has fired up Fulham captain Danny Murphy, who has a tradition of scoring against United when he used to play for Liverpool. Murphy is hoping to upset the odds and secure a trip to Wembley for the Craven Cottage faithful.

"If we can manage to get a result against Manchester United and edge towards a Wembley semi-final it would be a fantastic reward for everyone, including the supporters after the trials and tribulations of last season, because we all suffered. But we know it’s going to be tough," he was quoted saying by the club's website.

"It’s been a great season so far in many ways and we don’t want it to peter out, we want it to continue and that means now concentrating on giving a good performance, being professional, and looking after ourselves because we’ve got a lot of games coming thick and fast."

The Cottagers' most recent appearance in the FA Cup semi-finals was in 2002, their sixth in history when they were beaten by Chelsea. The last time Fulham played an FA Cup quarterfinal, in 2004, it was exactly Manchester United who dispatched them.

Meanwhile, Edwin van der Sar's 1,311-minute goalless string  ended on Wednesday against Newcastle, but United came from behind  to record an 11th straight win in the league, and have now lost only one of 29 games in all competitions.

In the league, Fulham were destroyed at Old Trafford. While that was only the second time Roy Hodgson's mid-table side have lost in the league at Craven Cottage this season, they haven't beaten United on home turf since 1964.

United does have a continuing injury complication, although the situation has improved drastically.  Wes Brown and Owen Hargreaves are still definitely out of Saturday's game, whereas Fulham are likely to field their first team.
