Police in Montenegro arrest 25 people for smuggling 2.5 tons of 'skunk' marijuana

Police in Montenegro arrested 25 people including a police officer and a prison official on February 27 2009 for alleged involvement in smuggling 2.5 tons of skunk marijuana.

Montenegrin and Serbian news reports said that the group had been charged with organising marijuana trafficking from Albania, through Montenegro to Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Western European countries.

Serbia’s Tanjug agency said that skunk was a concentrated Indian hemp, similar to marijuana, with much stronger effects. The potent variety is said to be grown through selective cultivation and the use of hydroponics.

The operation was conducted in Podgorica, Niksic and Bar.

Podgorica weekly Revija D said that the amount of skunk on the Montenegrin market showed that the drug was not only being produced in Albania, but Montenegro as well, adding that the Russian mafia was probably also involved.
