The trial of former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadžić being shortened, but with an additional genocide charge, is a very good action by the International Criminal Tribunal For the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
Karadžić is being charged with genocide for his leading role and actions in the ethnic cleansing of Bosnia-Herzegovina as well as the massacre of 8000 Bosnian men and boys from the besieged eastern Bosnian city of Srebrenica.
While Karadžić is a psychopathic mass killer, perhaps he realises that he will most likely be found guilty of genocide and perhaps he would just like to receive the verdict and start serving a life-long jail sentence.
Karadžić’s actions thus far in the court have included asking that he be released due to what he calls his "illegal arrest" and for charges to be dropped due to his claim that former US assistant secretary of state Richard Holbrooke made a deal with him that included no United Nations indictments for Karadžić if he withdrew from the Bosnian political scene. Karadžić, being the psychopath that he is, has treated his trial as if he is accused of minor issues rather than massive killing and inhumanity.
People should remember that this same man that is a crazy defendant in this trial is also the man that the world, including the United States, respected as the leader of the Bosnian Serbs.
Translating from Serbian into Croatian, or vice verse, would be like translating German films in Austria, Austrian films in Germany or Argentina or Cuban productions in Spain.
The source of threats and pressures is diversified: politicians, business groups, often linked to mafia-style business dealings, religious organisations, actors, musicians, etc.
