Levski football club player caught driving under the influence of alcohol

Youssef Rabeh, a Moroccan defender with Levski Sofia football club, was caught driving under the influence of alcohol in the early hours of Feruary 26 2009, Levski's website said.

At 6.30am Rabeh was driving his company vehicle alone in Sofia's Studentski Grad neighbourhood, an area known for its numerous nightclubs. At one point the vehicle slipped at a turn and Rabeh lost control, the website said. No one was hurt and no damages were caused following the incident.

When Traffic Police came to the scene, Rabeh tested positive for alcohol and, according to Bulgarian Focus news agency, was taken into police custody. Levski have not yet confirmed this.

Levski would only say that police have opened a file on the case and that, after all circumstances in the case were reviewed, Rabeh would suffer sanctions in line with the club's internal regulations.

According to Bulgaria's penal code, Rabeh could face a suspended sentence of one year for driving under the influence of alcohol if this is his first offence. He could also forfeit his driving licence for six months.

At the end of 2008 Rabeh and his teammate, Belgian midfielder Rachid Tiberkanine, got involved in a row with taxi drivers in Sofia for which they were called in for questioning by the General-Prosecutor's Office.
