Champions League: Chelsea win, but Hiddink not satisfied

Chelsea have won and kept their goal dry in the first leg of the knock-out clash against Juventus, the only goal – an early strike – scored by Didier Drogba. It was a tough encounter at Stamford Bridge and it could have gone both ways, but the Londoners got their advantage.

Drogba slotted the ball home after he received a pass from Salomon Kalou, 12 minutes into the first half. The Italians were up for it however and Juventus gave Chelsea apprehensive moments, with keeper Petr Cech having to save a stunning ball from Alessandro del Piero at one point.

Juventus had been the better side after the break, and they almost snatched an equaliser in the closing seconds when Nedved's shot beat Cech but slipped agonisingly wide of the post. Later on, del Piero was again on target, but Chelsea held on to win.

For the second game out of his two in charge, Guus Hiddink has steered the Blues to success but on both occasions he said after the matches that he was not satisfied with the way Chelsea play after the break.

Reminiscent of Villa Park with Aston Villa at his Chelsea debut, the winning goal against Juventus came within the first 15 minutes, with Didier Drogba replacing Nicolas Anelka as the scorer. But although a consecutive clean sheet puts Chelsea in the driving seat to complete an Italian job in Turin in a fortnight, Juventus were the team on top for much of the second half, as Aston Villa were before that.

"I am satisfied with the narrow result, but I am not satisfied over the whole game," Hiddink said after the final whistle. "In the first part we started very well, defensively well-organised, good pressing and we opened our attacks through the wings," he told Chelsea's official website.

"We were dangerous around the first 15 minutes but after the goal we dropped back too far and made some distances between our attack, defence and midfield. Juventus could then play in between and they are very intelligent to do so.

"It is impossible to maintain control over a whole 90 minutes but with the attitude of this team, we must control perhaps 90 per cent of the game - which is difficult. The physical level is good but in these high level games you must be more than top."
