Slumdog Millionaire swept the 81st Academy Awards, grabbing eight Oscars, including for Best Picture and Best Director for Danny Boyle, and flooring the big studio favourite The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which only got three after having 13 nominations. Kate WInslet won Best Actress at the sixth time of asking, while Mickey Rourke's comeback faltered just short of the pinnacle, Best Actor going to Sean Penn. Doubt and Frost/Nixon went home empty-handed despite having five nominations each, while 2008's indisputable box-office king The Dark Knight got two awards from eight nominations, including the posthumous Oscar for Heath Ledger as Best Supporting Actor.
