A Palestinian refugee erupted angrily in a courtroom in Varna and began smashing computer monitors and other technical equipment, Dnevnik daily reported on February 18 2009, quoting district courts' spokesperson Elena Bangieva.

Yelling something in incomprehensible English, 23-year-old Tarik Adil Sami approached the judges and ripped off the monitor standing in front them, slamming it on the floor. Then he did the same with the court secretary's monitor.

Courtroom guards managed to escort Sami outside. Except for the damaged monitors and recording devices, nobody was harmed.

According to Dnevnik daily, the man was not involved in the ongoing trial, but had closely observed the work of the judges. No particular reason has been given for Sami's aggressive behaviour.

He is registered with the State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers and is in a middle of a legal procedure for the granting of temporary protection and permit for temporary residence in Bulgaria.
