Vetrokom EOOD has been granted a permit to start building a wind park near the arms-manufacturing town of Kazanluk. The 80 million euro project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2010, Stroitelstvo Gradut reports.

The company received its Investor Class A certificate last week from the Bulgarian Agency of Investments. The firm itself is a branch of the Swiss energy group Alpic Holding Group. The wind park will have a total output capacity of 50 megawatts of energy, consisting of 20 turbines, manufactured by the German company Fuhrlander, each capable of bellowing out 2.5 megawatts of energy.

Construction will begin in April 2009. Apart from providing a source of energy diversification, the facility will also contribute to the local economy of Kazanluk by creating more than 100 permanent jobs in construction, electrical maintenance, installations and logistical support.

Most parameters around the contracts have been resolved and signed. Vetrokom EOOD only awaits "favourable climatic conditions to commence construction," said Alan Walmsley, executive director of Alpic for Central Europe. "The creation of the wind park in Kazanluk is part of our company's strategy to increase the process of energy diversification in the region," he said.

The wind park will spread over 4.5 million sq m of mountainous terrain. The area concerned is government property and has been released on concession.
