Opposition parties in Parliament will file the seventh no confidence motion against the Government of Sergei Stanishev on February 18 2009 less than six months before the next general elections for Parliament.

The motion, signed by 65 out of 240 MPs, will be filed on the grounds of the Government's overall policy.

Debates on the motion have to start no sooner then three and no later than seven days from the day the motion is being filed. Parliament must vote on the motion 24 hours after the end of the debate.

In order to pass the motion, the opposition needs at least 121 votes in favour. This is highly unlikely given the support Stanishev's Cabinet enjoys in Parliament. The Government is backed by a majority of 150 MPs formed by the three ruling parties: Stanishev's Bulgarian Socialist Party, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms and the Movement for Stability and Progress.

The last no confidence motion against the Government was filed in July 2008 against the backdrop of Bulgaria's losses from the frozen European Union funds over doubts of corruption and abuse.

Previous no confidence motions were on the grounds of the Government policy on education, disaster management, health reforms, crime fighting and corruption.
