Championship side Coventry will travel to Ewood Park where they will be met by struggling premiership outfit Blackburn Rovers in what is going to be a cracker of an FA Cup tie as this would appear to be the only theoretic possibility for either team to win some sort of silverware this season.
Blackburn are just out of the Premiership death zone, being one point above Middlesbrough and West Brom who currently occupy the relegation slots.
Coventry however, are doing considerably well in their own league, being in the middle of the table at 14th place, having accumulated 40 points which is well above the relegation zone so there is an air of comfort in the team. Moreover, they are only ten points short of the promotion playoff spots, so Covertly still have everything to play for this season, whereas Blackburn simply will have to concentrate on Premiership survival.
The hosts will be without El-Hadji Diouf (cup tied) and Aaron Mokoena who is suspended for Coventry's visit. Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce is expected to make changes and give some fringe players a first-team run-out against their championship opponents on the day. .
The guests also aren't making the trip to Ewood Park in full strength as they are without defender Stephen Wright who is banned for the match. This problem in the back four might cause major dilemma: a decision must be made to either deploy Aron Gunnarsson from midfield or play new signing James McPake in his position. .
Furthermore, David Bell is cup-tied and strikers Leon McKenzie and Freddy Eastwood are doubts with thigh and knee problems, respectively.
Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce was quoted saying by the BBC:
"Coventry are in good form and will come with confidence and probably play above themselves. Some of our players will still have it fresh in their mind what happened last year against them when we got a good thrashing, so we will have to be at our best. It is important we put aside all our troubles in Premier League and think only of the glory of FA Cup."
Meanwhile, Coventry boss Chris Coleman told the clubs official website:
"We're missing certain bodies, but we know we can get a result. We must make sure our 4,500 fans aren't disappointed after making the long journey. I don't think Blackburn will want a replay. I'll take a replay now if that's how we get through. They can't afford to be relegated. A replay is a bigger headache for Sam than us."
The Super Cup – a special game between Poland champion Wisla Krakow and Polish Cup winner Legia Warsaw was to be the first football event scheduled to take place at the venue.
