Brussels to criticise Bulgaria in new report

A new interim report by the European Commission will criticise Bulgaria for the insufficient measures taken to fight corruption and organised crime, Bulgarian National Television said on February 11.

The report will be published on February 12 and its main recommendation is for more defined differentiation between the Interior Ministry's authority and the State Agency for National Security.

According to Brussels, there is no clear vision what is role of the parliamentary control on the agencies for security and public order. More work is needed in the sphere of the country's judicial system, the report will say, as quoted by Dnevnik daily.

Bulgaria lacks adequate legislation with which to regulate financing of political parties and confiscation of property acquired through criminal means. Brussels will insist for the passing of effective sentence on all suspects or detained criminal contingent.

Concerning Romania and its own ongoing judicial reforms, the interim report will not spare Bucharest either. The European Commission's draft concluded that the judicial system in the country was highly politicised.

One of the problems pointed out in the report was the fact that parliament obstructed the trials of public figures occupying key appointments and accused of corruption.
