Dimitrov waits for Nadal in Rotterdam

Bulgaria's rising tennis star Grigor Dimitrov won his first-round match against world number 23, Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic, at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, held in Ahoy Rotterdam.

Dimitrov, who won last year’s junior titles at Wimbledon and the US Open, lost the first set, but quickly recovered to win the match by a final scoreline of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

In only his second match in an ATP tournament, Dimitrov, ranked world number 482, hit ten aces, saved nine of 10 break points and converted two of his own five break points.

Handed a wild card by the tournament director and former Wimbledon champion Richard Krajicek, Dimitrov first win on the ATP Tour brought him 45 points in the ATP rankings, which will propel him more than 100 spots up.

Adding to that tally would be a difficult task for the teenager, who could meet world number one Rafael Nadal in the second round, provided that the Spaniard beats Italian Simone Bolelli, ranked 37 in the world, on February 11.

Nadal already played his first match in the tournament, losing in the doubles. Nadal and his partner, Ignacio Coll-Riudavets, were knocked out in two sets by the French partnership of Arnaud Clément and last year's singles champion Michael Llodra (3-6, 4-6).

Despite the early loss, Nadal was warmly applauded by the crowd, who were more than happy to watch the current Australian Open champion in action.

Russia's Nikolay Davydenko, who had to miss the Australian Open over injury, had a happy return to the court with a first-round 6-3, 6-2 victory against compatriot Igor Andreev.

Britain's Andy Murray, who like Nadal lost his doubles match, is scheduled to play his first-round match against Croatian Ivan Ljubicic on the evening of February 10.

I'm proud to be Macedonian/Bulgarian, we have so many talented people. But the neighboring countries' governments are so bad they won't recognize our people within their borders. Shame on the Greeks, Serbs, Romanians, Albanians for defiling democracy and self-determination...

I am proud to be Iranian. we have so many talented people. Unfortunately our government is horrible. ( and none of your governments can even compete with ours in the "horrible" category).

Btw, great effort by Grigor. next match can be tough, but he has nothing to lose.
