Bulgaria’s best male tennis player Grigor Dimitrov has a good chance of meeting world number one and current Australian Open champion Rafael Nadal in the second round of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament.

The tournament will be held in Ahoy Rotterdam on February 9 -15 February 2009. Dimitrov, who won last year’s junior titles at Wimbledon and the US Open, was handed one of the two last wildcards for the tournament. The other player awarded a wildcard was Thiemo de Bakker, the second Dutch player to receive a wildcard after Jesse Huta Galung.

Dimitrov will make his debut in Rotterdam against Thoma Berdich from the Czech Republic who is world number 23. If Dimitrov succeeds in advancing to the second round he could face Nadal who is playing Italian Simone Bolelli in the first round on February 11. The tournament’s website also said that for the doubles tournament the wildcards go to two exceptional teams. Nadal will play together with his fellow countryman Ignacio Coll-Riudavets. The second wildcard for the doubles tournament is reserved for Andy Murray and James Auckland.

Murray will play his opening singles match on February 10 against Croatian Ivan Ljubicic.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Gaël Monfils and Robin Haase have agreed to participate in the tournament. Novak Djokovic will miss the tournament. It is not clear yet whether Roger Federer will take part.
