Deputy Prime Minister: Bulgaria cannot demand compensation in the wake of gas crisis

Fri, Feb 06 2009 12:47 CET 764 Views
Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Ivailo Kalfin, has said that Bulgaria is in no position to demand compensation resulting from the gas crisis that hit the country at the turn of 2009.

"The crisis was not as a result of international conflicts, rather, it was due to inter-firm conflicts," he said, as quoted by Investor.bg

"When we talk of gas supply under trade agreements, Bulgaria is not a part of those agreements. Trade agreements are signed between Bulgargas and its corresponding international partners."

"After the crisis it was revealed that Bulgargas had accumulated more than 20 million dollars of losses, those losses will be submitted to Bulgargas' partners – the gas suppliers. This will happen today, February 6, but once again, this is between firms, and not between nations,"  Kalfin also said.
