Boxing day, December 26, will pit West Bromwich Albion, who are currently at the bottom of the Premiership,  against second Chelsea.  A victory over Albion will see Chelsea climb ahead of Liverpool at least temporarily.

West Brom will be mentally reinforced by their Sunday dramatic last minute win over Manchester City, and any means of boost will be welcomed for their trip to Stamford Bridge particularly when taking into consideration that so far, Chelsea hold a 100 per cent Premier League record against West Bromwich, and should Chelsea win again at home, this would be the eight consecutive victory over Albion.

The Baggies are going to the Bridge on a six-game losing run away from home, and another worrying factor is that, during their stay in the Premiership in the past, Albion has never managed to win on Boxing day, moreover, they will have to cope with the strongest attack in the Premier league (Chelsea have netted 36 goals),  and whilst trying to keep their goal dry, they will have to strike back, knowing also that they have the most inefficient attack so far in the Prem, with only 14 goals.

A boost for West Brom will be that captain John Terry is not going to play for Chelsea as he is starting a three match ban which he collected with his red card against Everton. Moreover, defender Ricardo Carvalho could return from injury for the home side, but that is far from certain. Meanwhile, Jonathan Greening, the captain of the Baggies has been declared fit for service after he was subbed during the match with Man City - he had suffered a blow which had temporarily impaired his vision.

West Albion main man in the centre of the park however,  Borja Valero who has been cut down with a flu,  is certain to miss his second match running, and with  Felipe Teixeira still down with a calf injury, it looks like the Baggies will need some divine intervention if they are to give their supporters a wonderful Christmas present on Friday.

In an interview for the BBC, West Brom manager Tony Mowbray said about facing Chelsea on Friday without John Terry: "if they could pick a game to be missing their captain this might have been the one they would have selected. Not too many teams go to Stamford Bridge and give their central defenders a lot of problems. I watched a game recently when they were at home and they had 31 shots and the opposition only had two. To lose their captain when they are playing the team who are bottom of the league, I don't think they will lose too much sleep over it."
