Morbid season for Arsenal - Biggest blow yet for the Gunners

Wed, Dec 24 2008 11:20 CET 363 Views

This is definitely a baleful season for the North London club, Arsenal. After a hesitant start and falling behind in the league from their direct rivals, the change of captaincy, the power struggles, the long list of casualties, Arsenal's young squad managed somewhat to pick them selves together and stabilise the sinking ship. Until the match with Liverpool on Sunday at the Emirates stadium, where Wenger's men were delivered a new, heavy blow with potential catastrophic consequences for their season.

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas is going to be out of the game for no less than four excruciating months, which can spell a true disaster for the men from London.  Fabregas added his name to the long list of casualties plaguing Wenger's season with  ruptured knee ligaments against Liverpool on Sunday's Premier League draw which ended 1-1, with Liverpool maintaining their top position in the league for the fourth week running. .

The 21-year-old Spanish midfielder suffered the horrendous injury going for a 50-50 challenge with compatriot Xabi Alonso, in which the Liverpool midfielder cannot be blamed for malicious play.

Arsene Wenger has stated that he is looking forward to the January transfer window where he is aiming to make a move for some new players and try to the best of his ability to patch up the badly shattered squad.

"It is more likely but we also have internal solutions and we are not desperate," said Wenger, as quoted by the BBC. ÒBut we also have a small squad so we have to be realistic. The news is not good. It will take three to four months, we count four. He will be working hard to come back earlier but I count four months." insisted Wenger.
