Politics
- The Cabinet has decided to amend the draft 2009 Budget because of the global financial crisis, MPs from the ruling coalition told Dnevnik daily. This decision by the ruling majority comes after the opposition and macroeconomists for more than a month criticised the draft budget over its unrealistic macroeconomic frame and at a time when the financial crisis is hitting Bulgaria's economy more and more, the daily commented.
Social
- Half of Sofia remained without heating, Monitor daily reported, saying that an industrial accident at a main pipeline left nine Sofia residential areas without heating and hot water on November 26.
- Hundreds of Bulgarians are returning from Spain as they can no longer endure the financial conditions of living and working abroad, Sega daily said in a report on the impact of the global financial crisis on Bulgarian emigrants working in Spain.
Economy
- Central Europe is ousting the Balkans out of the investors' focus, Dnevnik daily said. The foreign stock investors are running away from the stock markets of the Balkan countries, until recently deemed attractive, including the Bulgarian one. Their return will probably wait for the recovery of the world economy, a Dnevnik inquiry among Bulgarian and foreign fund managers showed.
Works will be reviewed by a group of judges, and winners will receive certificates and prizes.
Seven arrested, including ‘The Squirrel’ who was found in possession of 10 00 euro, Interior Ministry says. Mobile phones, computer equipment and drug paraphernalia seized.
