On November 24, Bulgaria and Austria representatives signed at the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs in Vienna the new three-year programme on co-operation in the field of culture, science and education between their respective governments.

The programme is based on the cultural agreement between Austria and Bulgaria, signed in 1973. Given the fundamental changes in Europe's political environment and the new realities deriving from them, which have affected the co-operation in the field of education and culture between the two states as members of the European Union, it had to be amended accordingly, the press service of the Bulgaria Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The programme regulates bilateral relations in a number of areas: contacts between the universities and the science institutions of the two states, the exchange of post-graduate students, the forms for qualification advancement, the education in languages, the recognition of diplomas and titles, the protection of cultural values, the interaction between the two states in the culture and science field within the framework of the EU, including under specific projects and institutions, and the co-operation between youth organisations, among others.
