Politics
- The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) came out with a new slogan for its upcoming congress this weekend, Dnevnik daily said. The motto "We create the better future for Bulgaria" was approved on November 18 by the executive bureau of the BSP, after on November 17 it released a 20-second black-and-white promotion clip "Governance with ideas... and heart". In line with the socialists' statements, the BSP is in being renewed, at a press conference held on November 18 the socialists presented the changed styling of their emblem - a Bulgarian rose in red and green, the daily reported.
- The companies dealing with the winter maintenance of the roads throughout the country will use 3000 snow-cleaning machines this season, Monitor daily reported, quoting the National Road Infrastructure Agency, in a report on the preparation for the upcoming winter.
Social
- The price of heating will rise more than initially planned, Dnevnik daily reported. It quoted the head of the State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission Konstantin Shoushoulov as saying this will happen as of January 2009 and the new prices would reflect both the increase of gas prices from October 2008 and its future new increase as of January 2009.
Economy
- The Bulgarian Government for now will not seek help from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in spite of the calls of an increasing number of economists that Bulgaria should finance its external disbalances with loans from the institution, Dnevnik daily said. On November 18, Finance Minister Plamen Oresharski once again said Bulgaria does not need IMF money. "As a shareholder in the IMF, Bulgaria can always ask for help, but currently there is no need for this," Oresharski said, as quoted by the daily.
Works will be reviewed by a group of judges, and winners will receive certificates and prizes.
Seven arrested, including ‘The Squirrel’ who was found in possession of 10 00 euro, Interior Ministry says. Mobile phones, computer equipment and drug paraphernalia seized.
