Mark your calendar: Argentinian tango socials in Sofia

Fri, Oct 17 2008 17:42 CET 159 Views

TanguerIN Studio opens a new milonga (tango party), hosting Social Jazz Club at 4 Slaveykov Square on October 20 2008 at 8pm. You can dance, watch and listen to the Argentinian tango, see Buenos Aires screenings and surprise demonstrations on every first and third Monday of the month.

TanguerIN founder, Ivo Paroushev, will talk about the tango tradition to introduce each of the three Argentinian films that will run during this year's Kinomania on November 21-23. The tangueros will extend their activities in the week after with the visit of a Belgian DJ, who will co-host the December 1 Milonga de los Barbaros.

The month will culminate on December 11, international tango day, with a concert and demonstrations from all tango schools in Sofia.

Tango began in the slums of Buenos Aires at the end of the 19th century to evolve in a cosmopolitan dance form that conquered Europe in the 1940s and continues eastward to this day.

It grew out of the disillusionment of thousands of immigrants and the rich musical traditions of three continents. Intense and complex, this art form combines motion, melody and vision to escape language and catalyse a sense of communion where the man becomes more of a man and the woman becomes more of a woman.
