Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov did not take long to show the travelling contingent of Manchester United fans why he cost the 30-plus million pounds, finally opening his scoring account with the club in the Champions League match against Danish side Aalborg on September 30.
After a much improved performance against Bolton, Berbatov finally unleashed himself with two coolly-taken goals and an even cooler celebration, while United ran out 3-0 winners on the night.
"I knew that my first goal would come sooner or later," Berbatov said, relaxed and calm as you like, after the match to Sky Sports.
The Bulgarian international missed a great opportunity to score his first goal for United five minutes into the match, when his volley thundered over the bar from a mere seven yards, but this had little effect on his relaxed approach to the game. From that point on, Berbatov simply enveloped himself and started exerting his presence on the pitch, putting in by far his most prominent performance for United.
He found the net eventually, capitalising on a defensive mistake by the Danish team, scoring United's second goal for United in the 56th minute.
His second goal came from a Cristiano Ronaldo cross, which he volleyed in an acrobatic display in the 80th minute. It was a cracker of a goal by any standards, followed by a "celebration" from Berbatov which was reserved, to say the least.
"It was a goal like any other. I tapped it, it went it, 3-0", was his monotonous comment for Sky Sports after the match.
The cool-blooded striker scored his first two and with Wayne Rooney's strike in the 22nd minute, United wrapped up a classic victory away in Denmark after dominating the game completely. The English champions could easily have scored more goals with Ryan Giggs, Carlos Tevez, and Rooney missing chances.
Towards the end of the game, Berbatov returned the favour to Ronaldo by feeding him a great pass, but Ronaldo failed to score and make the victory even more emphatic.
Despite easily brushing Aalborg aside, the win will worry United, who suffered a blow after 16 minutes when Paul Scholes was stretchered off with a knee injury following a challenge by Thomas Augustinussen. Things went from bad to worse later in the match, when in the 58th minute Rooney was injured and had to be taken out of the game as well.
While Alex Ferguson was no doubt delighted with his team's performace and the clinical display from the Bulgarian, he will wake up this morning with yet another selection problem for the weekend, when United face a difficult away match at neighbours Blackburn.
