Ivan Lekov, deputy chairperson of the State Agency for Sport and Youth (SASY) and member of the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) executive committee, was released on 10 000 leva bail by the Sofia City Court on September 26 2008.
Lekov was arrested three days earlier in front of TV cameras by undercover agents of the State Agency for National Security. He was charged with abuse of position in relation to the accusations levelled by four former football referees, who claimed that Lekov had asked them to fix football matches.
One of the referees, Hristo Ristoskov presented the General-Prosecutor's Office with a videotape that allegedly had Lekov and Ristoskov discussing the issue.
Ristoskov has been claiming his accusations against Lekov and Borislav Alexandrov, head of BFU's referee committee, for weeks but it was until he was questioned by the prosecution when authorities took actions.
Unlike Lekov, Alexandrov was not arrested but just questioned and released on 5000 leva bail. Both Lekov and Alexandrov denied the accusations, but Valentin Mihov, head of the Professional Football League, who has seen Ristoskov's videotape, had described what was on it as a "disgrace".
