Environment Minister Djevdet Chakurov has ordered Bourgas Regional Inspectorate on Environment and Waters (RIEW) to file a complaint against the Bourgas regional Prosecutor's Office for construction violations in the protected area of Airodi, the Ministry of Environment and Water Affairs (MOEW) said in a media statement on August 12.

RIEW Bourgas will also fine the buildings' owners between 5000 and 20 000 leva for breaking the Protected Areas Act.

Airodi is part of the protected area of the Veleka river mouth, which is also part of Strandja nature park. Despite a construction ban in the area MOEW's investigation discovered 12 bungalows, 10 of which were on solid concrete foundations, and other extensions. They also discovered six other buildings, two constructed from bricks and the rest from lighter materials but on concrete foundations.

The constructions are illegal and RIEW will notify the National Construction Control Directorate to start measures, MOEW said.
